Ingrown toenail management conservative method

£100

Ingrown toenails are one of the most common foot concerns in podiatry.

A toenail can become ingrown following incorrect nail cutting, trauma, poorly fitting footwear or hosiery, deformed or thickened toenails.

This issue can be managed via a conservative treatment method – treatment includes trimming and clearing the offending nail spike providing relief. This however, is not a permanent solution, a nail can grow back into the skin once it grows out again. Toenail surgery is a more permanent solution.

The conservative treatment method is perfect for those looking for a faster solution with less downtime.
Toenails surgery requires up to 6 weeks recovery (walking and driving can be resumed after at least 24hrs following surgery)

Nail Surgery

£550 one toe | £650 two toes (includes dressing pack and 3 follow up appointments)

Ingrown toenails are one of the most common foot concerns in podiatry.

A toenail can become ingrown following incorrect nail cutting, trauma, poorly fitting footwear or hosiery, deformed or thickened toenails.

The permanent solution to this problem is nail surgery – this is a minor surgical procedure carried out under local anaesthetic to remove a part of the nail on the offending side, once this is achieved, a chemical called phenol is applied to stop that side from growing back again. This procedure takes around an hour to perform, the initial dressing will be bigger than a normal plaster so flip flops are advised for this procedure!

Driving and walking can be resumed after a minimum of 24hrs, so please arrange transportation following this treatment. Paracetamol is all that is needed for pain relief.

The overall recovery time is estimated at around 6 weeks.

Nail surgery is also an effective solution for fungal, thickened or traumatised nails – toenails can be removed under local anaesthetic to allow to grow back for a clearer, more even nail, or removed permanently with the use of phenol to stop the nail from growing back again.

Please be aware: Nail surgery cannot be booked online – this decision needs to be confirmed following an initial visit with a podiatrist so a clear and concise decision can be made regarding a treatment path.
